Safety Information
At Nurture Maternity, your baby's safety and comfort are at the heart of everything we do. Please read this guide fully before using any of our products.
Critical Safety Notice
Before using any Nurture Maternity product, please read this notice carefully. These guidelines are not optional — they exist to protect your baby.
Never leave your baby unattended in the Nurture Lounger or Nurture Nest — not even for a moment. Both products are designed for supervised, awake-time use only. They are not sleeping devices, and must never be used as a substitute for a safe sleep environment.
Stop use immediately if your baby shows any signs of rolling over, if they reach the maximum recommended weight of 9 kg (20 lbs), or if they appear uncomfortable or distressed — whichever comes first.
Universal Safe Use Rules
These rules apply to both the Nurture Lounger and the Nurture Nest, every time you use the product:
- Always place the product on a firm, flat, low surface — the floor is the safest option.
- Keep your baby within arm's reach and maintain continuous, uninterrupted visual supervision.
- Never place the product on a sofa, bed, table, countertop, or any raised or soft surface.
- Never place the product on an inclined or uneven surface — always keep it level.
- Do not use the product as a carrier — never carry your baby inside the lounger or nest.
- Do not allow pets, older siblings, or other children to interact with the product while your baby is inside.
- Ensure your baby's face is always fully visible, unobstructed, and facing upward.
- Never add loose pillows, blankets, soft toys, or extra bedding inside the product.
- Inspect the product before each use — do not use if any part is damaged, torn, or deformed.
- Do not use in a pram, car seat, swing, or bouncer.
- Remove all packaging and labels before placing your baby inside for the first time.
Age, Weight & Development Guide
Both Nurture Maternity products are designed for newborns through early infancy. Here is an overview of suitability for each product:
Nurture Lounger — Age
Suitable from birth up to approximately 6–8 months, or when your baby begins rolling over — whichever comes first.
Nurture Lounger — Weight
Do not use beyond 9 kg (20 lbs). Discontinue use as soon as this limit is reached or rolling begins.
Nurture Nest — Age
Ideal for newborns to approximately 6 months, or earlier if your baby begins pushing against the sides or rolling.
Nurture Nest — Weight
Maximum weight is 9 kg (20 lbs). If baby begins pushing up or arching their back, discontinue use immediately.
✅ Every baby develops at their own pace. Watch for cues of greater mobility — not just age — when deciding whether to transition your baby out of the product.
Material Safety & Certifications
Every material used in Nurture Maternity products has been carefully selected and tested for safety around newborns and young infants.
✅ All Nurture Maternity products are manufactured in compliance with applicable international baby product safety regulations, including ASTM and EN standards.
Safe Sleep Reminder
The Nurture Lounger and Nurture Nest are not safe sleep devices. Nurture Maternity follows the safe sleep guidelines issued by leading paediatric health authorities worldwide.
- Always place baby on their back to sleep — on a firm, flat, uncluttered mattress in a cot or bassinet.
- The sleeping environment must be free of pillows, blankets, bumpers, soft toys, and loose bedding.
- Babies should share a room (not a bed) with a caregiver for at least the first 6 months.
- Avoid overheating — dress your baby appropriately for the room temperature.
- Never put a sleeping baby in the Nurture Lounger or Nest, and if they fall asleep during use, move them immediately to a safe sleep surface.
If your baby falls asleep in the product, move them immediately to a firm, flat cot or bassinet. Do not leave a sleeping baby in the Nurture Lounger or Nurture Nest under any circumstances.
What Never To Do
These are absolute prohibitions for both products. Violating any of these rules may cause serious injury:
- ❌ Never use as a sleeping surface, overnight sleep aid, or unsupervised rest place.
- ❌ Never leave baby unattended — not for any amount of time, for any reason.
- ❌ Never place on a sofa, bed, table, car seat, stroller, or any elevated or soft surface.
- ❌ Never use near water, heaters, open flames, or direct sunlight for extended periods.
- ❌ Never carry the product with your baby inside — it is not a carrier.
- ❌ Never add extra padding, pillows, or soft items inside the product.
- ❌ Never use if the product is visibly damaged, torn, or if any component is missing.
- ❌ Never machine wash the foam insert — spot clean only.
- ❌ Never continue use once your baby shows signs of rolling or reaches 9 kg.
Cleaning & Care — Both Products
Maintaining your Nurture Maternity product keeps it hygienic and extends its life. Follow these instructions carefully:
Removable Cover
Machine wash on a gentle/delicate cycle at 30°C (86°F). Do not tumble dry. Reshape and air dry flat.
Inner Foam Insert
Do not machine wash. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild, fragrance-free detergent. Air dry fully before use.
Chemicals to Avoid
Do not use bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh chemical cleaners on any part of the product.
Before Each Use

What is the Nurture Lounger?
The Nurture Lounger is a flat, play-mat style baby pod designed for supervised tummy time and awake play sessions. It is not a nest, carrier, car seat, or sleeping surface. Its flat profile and lightweight construction make it ideal for moving around the home during your baby's wakeful periods.
Dimensions
Approximately 70 cm × 40 cm — sized perfectly for newborns and young infants.
Weight
Under 0.9 kg — lightweight enough to carry from room to room with ease.
Suitable For
Supervised tummy time, visual stimulation, and short awake play sessions from birth onwards.
Not For
Sleep, feeding, carrying, unsupervised use, or placement on elevated surfaces.
Lounger-Specific Safety Rules
In addition to standard safe use guidelines, observe these rules specifically for the Nurture Lounger:
- Always place the Lounger on a completely flat, firm floor surface — never on soft furnishings or carpet that could cause it to tip.
- During tummy time, position yourself at eye level with your baby — kneel or lie down on the floor in front of them.
- Keep tummy time sessions short and graduated — start with 1–2 minutes and gradually increase as your baby builds strength.
- If your baby becomes distressed, turns their face into the product, or struggles to lift their head, end the session immediately.
- The Lounger's flat profile means your baby's face must remain face-up or face-out at all times — never face-down unsupervised.
- Do not drape toys, mobiles, or items over the lounger in a way that could fall and obstruct your baby's face or airway.
- The Lounger is not designed for feeding — do not attempt to prop or bottle-feed your baby while they are in the lounger.
- Never place the Lounger on a sloped surface, cushion, mattress, or unstable base.
Tummy Time Safety Guide
The Nurture Lounger is designed to support healthy supervised tummy time — one of the most important developmental activities for newborns. Follow these steps to make tummy time safe and effective:
Begin tummy time from birth. Start with just 1–2 minutes per session and build up gradually as your baby gains neck and shoulder strength.
Do tummy time when your baby is awake, alert, and content — never immediately after a feed. A gassy or sleepy baby will not benefit and may become distressed.
Get down to your baby's level during tummy time. Maintain eye contact and engage with your baby throughout each session — do not walk away.
If your baby turns their head to one side and cannot lift it, collapses flat, or becomes upset, the session is over. Gently flip them back to their back and comfort them.
Aim to work up to a total of 30 minutes of tummy time spread across the day by 3 months. Consistent daily tummy time supports motor development and reduces flat-head syndrome risk.
Always turn your baby onto their back to sleep, even if they have fallen asleep during tummy time. Tummy time is for awake, supervised periods only.
Age & Weight — Nurture Lounger
The Nurture Lounger is designed for use from birth through early infancy. These limits are not guidelines — they are safety requirements:
Minimum Age
Suitable from birth. Always ensure a newborn's head and neck are fully supported when placing them in the Lounger.
Maximum Age
Up to approximately 6–8 months, or as soon as your baby shows any sign of rolling — whichever comes first.
Maximum Weight
9 kg (20 lbs). Do not continue use once your baby reaches or exceeds this weight limit.
When to Stop
Stop use as soon as your baby attempts to roll, pushes up with their arms, or consistently resists being placed in the Lounger.
✅ 91% of parents reported their baby settled comfortably in the Nurture Lounger within 5 minutes. Always remain present and attentive during each session.
When to Stop Using the Lounger
Stop using the Nurture Lounger immediately if you observe any of the following. Do not wait for multiple signs — any single trigger is enough:
Baby is attempting to roll or has successfully rolled over
Baby is pushing up strongly onto hands and knees
Baby has reached or is approaching 9 kg (20 lbs)
Baby consistently shows distress, arching, or resistance
Baby is approaching or has reached 6–8 months of age
Any part of the Lounger is damaged, worn, or deteriorated
Cleaning the Nurture Lounger
The Nurture Lounger features a removable outer cover for easy, hygienic cleaning. Follow these steps to keep it fresh and safe for your baby:
- Remove the cover by unzipping and lifting it away from the foam insert before washing.
- Machine wash the cover on a gentle or delicate cycle at a maximum of 30°C (86°F).
- Do not tumble dry — heat can damage the fabric and alter its shape. Reshape while slightly damp and air dry flat.
- Do not iron the cover — the fibres are heat-sensitive.
- Foam insert — never submerge in water or machine wash. Spot clean only with a damp cloth and mild, fragrance-free soap. Air dry thoroughly — at least 24 hours — before reassembling.
- Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, stain sprays, and enzyme-based cleaners on the cover or foam.
- Wipe spills from the cover promptly with a clean damp cloth to prevent staining and odour.
- Inspect the cover and foam insert after every wash cycle — do not use if seams are loose, foam is compressed unevenly, or any part is degraded.
What is the Nurture Nest?
The Nurture Nest is a structured baby nest with raised, padded sides designed to give newborns a gentle sense of security and containment, mimicking the womb-like environment babies are accustomed to. Unlike the Lounger, the Nest's raised bolster sides provide a more enclosed space — ideal for settled, awake rest periods with full supervision.
Dimensions
Approximately 80 cm × 45 cm — longer and wider than the Lounger to accommodate the padded bolster sides.
Key Feature
Raised padded bolster sides provide gentle containment and security without restricting movement or airflow.
Suitable For
Settled, supervised awake time for newborns who benefit from a secure, womb-like feeling.
Not For
Sleep, unsupervised use, tummy time, or placement in cots, prams, or elevated surfaces.
Nest-Specific Safety Rules
Beyond the universal safe use guidelines, these rules apply specifically to the Nurture Nest and its raised-side design:
- Always place the Nest on a firm, flat floor surface. The raised bolster sides reduce peripheral visibility — floor placement is essential for safe supervision.
- Position yourself so you can see your baby's face clearly at all times, particularly their nose, mouth, and chin. The raised sides should not obstruct your view of their airway.
- Do not press, compress, or reshape the bolster sides — they are designed to maintain a specific firmness. Deforming the sides may affect safe containment.
- Ensure your baby is placed centrally within the Nest, with their head toward the wider end and their face visible above the rim of the sides.
- Never bundle or wrap your baby tightly in blankets inside the Nest — the bolster sides provide sufficient comfort without additional layering.
- If your baby's head or shoulders appear to be resting against the bolster sides rather than on the base, reposition them immediately.
- Do not stack items on, around, or over the Nest while in use.
- Regularly check that the Nest base remains flat and has not become compressed or uneven with use.
Newborn Positioning in the Nest
Correct positioning is critical for your newborn's airway safety and comfort inside the Nurture Nest. Follow these positioning steps every single time:
Lay your baby flat on their back (supine position) in the centre of the Nest base. Never place your baby face-down or on their side in the Nest unsupported.
Newborns have limited neck strength. Use both hands to support your baby's head and neck when lowering them into and lifting them out of the Nest. Never allow the head to flop or drop.
Once positioned, check that your baby's face is fully visible, their chin is neutral (not tucked into the chest), and their nose and mouth are unobstructed by the sides, fabric, or clothing.
Your baby's arms and legs should be able to move freely. Avoid swaddling tightly inside the Nest, as the bolster sides already provide a containment sensation.
Remain within arm's reach throughout the session. Never step away, even briefly. If you need to leave the room, remove your baby from the Nest and take them with you.
Age & Weight — Nurture Nest
The Nurture Nest is designed primarily for newborns and the early weeks of infancy, when the sense of security provided by the raised sides is most beneficial:
Minimum Age
Suitable from birth. Ideal for the first 8–12 weeks when the womb-like containment is most settling for newborns.
Maximum Age
Up to approximately 6 months, or as soon as your baby begins pushing against the bolster sides or attempting to roll — whichever comes first.
Maximum Weight
9 kg (20 lbs). Discontinue immediately when this limit is reached or when rolling begins.
Key Stop Trigger
Unlike the Lounger, watch closely if your baby starts pushing against the bolster sides — this indicates they are outgrowing the Nest's safe containment.
✅ The Nurture Nest is most effective in the newborn phase. Many families find their baby transitions to the Nurture Lounger for tummy time as the Nest becomes outgrown.
When to Stop Using the Nest
The Nurture Nest's raised-side design means the stop signals may arrive earlier than with the flat Lounger. Watch closely for any of these signs:
Baby is pushing outward against the bolster sides
Baby is attempting to roll or has rolled in the Nest
Baby is arching their back or lifting their hips
Baby's shoulders or head are level with or above the sides
Baby has reached or is approaching 9 kg (20 lbs)
Bolster sides show compression, deformation, or damage
Do not wait until your baby has fully rolled over inside the Nest. The raised sides may obstruct a rolling baby's airway. At the first sign of rolling attempts, discontinue use immediately.
Cleaning the Nurture Nest
The Nurture Nest features a fully removable, zip-off cover for thorough and easy cleaning. The raised padded sides require specific care to maintain their shape and safety structure:
- Remove the cover by fully unzipping around the perimeter of the Nest before washing.
- Machine wash the cover on a gentle or delicate cycle at a maximum of 30°C (86°F). Do not use a higher temperature — heat can cause the cover to shrink and no longer fit properly over the bolster padding.
- Do not tumble dry — lay the cover flat or hang to air dry, reshaping while damp to preserve fit.
- Bolster foam padding and inner insert — never machine wash. Spot clean only with a lightly damp cloth and mild detergent. Allow at least 24–48 hours of air drying before reassembling.
- Check the zip after each wash — ensure it moves smoothly and fully closes. A damaged zip is a safety risk as it may allow the cover to shift during use.
- Do not use bleach, stain removers with enzymes, or fabric softeners on any part of the Nest.
- Only reassemble when all components are completely dry. Reassembling with damp padding can lead to mould growth inside the bolster sides, which is a health hazard.
- After each wash, inspect the bolster sides for any loss of firmness or uneven compression. If the sides feel significantly softer or have deformed, discontinue use and contact us at hello@nurture-maternity.com.
